Why Ubud?
Ubud is Bali's cultural soul — home to temples, traditional dance, artists, healers, and some of the world's most beautiful jungle landscape. For couples who want their wedding to feel meaningful, not just pretty, Ubud delivers an experience that no beach or clifftop venue can replicate.
Rice terrace ceremonies, open-air bamboo pavilions draped in tropical flowers, and the constant ambient soundtrack of jungle and frogs — Ubud is for the couple who closes their eyes and pictures something lush, green, and deeply alive.
Ubud Wedding Venues
Private Villa Estates
Ubud has dozens of exceptional private villa estates available for exclusive hire. The best offer sweeping rice terrace views, natural swimming pools, and open-sided bales (pavilions) perfect for ceremony and reception. Villa hire typically runs $1,500–$4,500 for a full day, making Ubud Bali's best-value luxury setting.
Resort Properties
The Four Seasons at Sayan, Alaya Resort, and Bisma Eight are among the standout resort wedding venues. These properties sit above the Ayung River gorge and offer a level of dramatic beauty that rivals any clifftop setting. Packages start from $18,000.
The Rice Terrace Ceremony
Some planners arrange ceremonies directly in working rice terraces near Tegallalang — arguably the most photographed landscape in all of Bali. This requires significant coordination (permits, timing around farmers, lighting) and a very experienced planner, but results in truly once-in-a-lifetime images.
The Ubud Experience
- Add a Melukat ritual: A traditional Balinese water blessing ceremony performed by a Hindu priest. An extraordinary way to begin your wedding day. Most Ubud planners can arrange this.
- Balinese dance performance: The Legong or Kecak fire dance as evening entertainment — entirely on-theme and deeply moving.
- Distance from the coast: Ubud is 45–90 mins from most beach areas. For multi-day celebrations, encourage guests to base themselves in Ubud.
- Altitude & temperature: At ~300m elevation, Ubud is noticeably cooler and less humid than the coast — a genuine comfort advantage.

Best Time of Year
Ubud's dry season (May–October) is the safest for outdoor ceremonies. However, Ubud's microclimate means brief afternoon showers are possible even in dry season. Always have a covered backup pavilion — any good Ubud venue will have one. The wet season produces extraordinarily lush, vivid greens that some photographers actively prefer.
